Focusing Minds was delighted to provide free support at Trinity Academy Cathedral during the summer term.
Local donations and fundraising made this support possible. As a result, students could access additional mental health and wellbeing support at no cost to the school.
The project also marked a welcome return to Trinity Academy Cathedral for Focusing Minds. We previously supported students at the school for four years. During that time, we built strong relationships with both staff and young people.
Free mental health and wellbeing support
At Focusing Minds, we believe young people should be able to access support when they need it.
However, schools and families can face challenges when trying to access additional services. Funding can also limit the support available.
Thanks to generous local donations and fundraising, we were able to provide this service completely free of charge.
The support gave students a safe space to talk about the challenges they faced. It also helped them explore practical ways to move forward.
Most importantly, the funding allowed us to continue supporting local young people within their school community.
Returning to Trinity Academy Cathedral
The project was also a welcome return to Trinity Academy Cathedral.
Focusing Minds previously worked within the school for four years. During this time, we developed positive relationships with staff and students.
Our previous work covered several areas of student need. This included mental health, emotional wellbeing, personal development, behaviour and engagement with school.
Therefore, returning to the school provided an opportunity to build on these established relationships.
It was great to work with the Trinity Academy Cathedral community again.
Year 6 transition support at Trinity Academy Cathedral
As part of the free service, Focusing Minds also delivered a Year 6 transition workshop.
Moving from primary to secondary school is a major change. For some children, it can bring excitement. However, it can also lead to uncertainty and anxiety.
The workshop helped Year 6 pupils prepare for their move to Trinity Academy Cathedral. Students could explore some of their thoughts and concerns about starting secondary school.
We also discussed practical ways to manage the transition.
For example, young people can benefit from preparing for new routines and asking questions when they feel unsure. They can also identify trusted adults who can support them.
The workshop reinforced our commitment to supporting young people through school transition.
Helping young people make progress
Focusing Minds provides person-centred support for children and young people.
This means we focus on the needs of each individual. We listen to what matters to them and help them identify realistic goals.
Our support can cover areas such as anxiety, confidence, emotional wellbeing and personal development. We can also help young people with behaviour, relationships and engagement with education.
There is no single approach that works for every young person. Therefore, our support remains flexible and responsive to individual needs.
Ultimately, we want young people to develop skills that can help them make progress.
Thank you to our local supporters
We are extremely grateful to everyone who supports the work of Focusing Minds.
Local donations and fundraising help us reach young people who may otherwise miss out on additional support. In this case, that generosity allowed us to provide our services to Trinity Academy Cathedral completely free of charge.
It also enabled us to support Year 6 pupils as they prepared for secondary school.
Every donation can help us create more opportunities to support children and young people.
Mental health and wellbeing support for schools
Focusing Minds works with schools to provide mental health, wellbeing and personal development support.
Our services can complement the support already available within a school. In addition, we can tailor our work around individual students and the needs of the wider school community.
We are proud to support schools and young people across our local communities and further afield.
If your school would like to learn more about Focusing Minds school support services, please get in touch. We would be happy to discuss how we can support your students to make progress.
